PAST POSTING DATES

JANUARY 2003 - JULY 2003
Dear DMFC : I see a couple other people have already posted to your bulletin board about the Golddiggers being in Las Vegas this weekend. I was actually in the audience to hear and see them on the radio show and was mesmerized that they haven't changed a bit since they appeared on Dean's TV show. I just wanted to know what their secret was for never aging?
(Maureen Rogers - Nevada)

Dear DMFC : How come "Money from Home" has not made it to home video yet? I love all those Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis movies.
(J. Mahoney - Mississippi)

Dear DMFC : I happen to have been at the Stirling Club dining with a group of people that were having a reunion in Las Vegas, and we saw a large group of ladies being photographed in the grand foyer who were all beautifully dressed and having a good time. My husband said that he thought some of them looked familiar and asked our waiter what was going on. He told us that they were the Golddiggers and that they had something to do with Dean Martin. My husbands blood pressure almost shot up through the ceiling when he heard that and proceeded to inform the waiter how important these ladies were to Dean and how important they were to Bob Hope on his Vietnam tours that we all saw on TV.
Needless to say, the topic at our table was all about Dean and the Golddiggers. The waiter pointed out a young man who had walked pass our table a bit later and said that he was the president of Dean's fan club, so my husband in a flash got up and ran after him to ask. The nice man told my husband that he could peek in and catch a glimpse at the ladies having a good time dancing and celebrating.
After my husband returned to the table, he was in heaven. I never saw a bigger smile on his face. The gentleman introduced himself and gave us his card, and told us all about how much fun they were having and told us about the Dean Martin fan club.
We never knew about this, but my husband is acting like a little kid again, thrilled to death about the night he saw the real Golddiggers in person.
I had to write you my story and tank you for being such a grand host.
(Marilyn Luboff - Nevada)

Hi Marilyn - I just arrived back from a fantastic weekend in Las Vegas celebrating with the girls! It was more fun than I could possibly describe! Actually, I should say "WE" had more fun than I could possible describe! The girls had a blast!
A live radio show was first on the list for everyone that could make it on Thursday. It was at a major hotel with an audience of 500 people on the very popular Dennis Bono Show. Some of the girls were actually rushing into the studio during air time hugging each other a minute before going on the air, as they arrived.
Over the weekend, there was a lot of feasting, dancing and singing, but most of all... story telling and recalling so many precious memories.
Four days went by wayyyyyy too fast... but we were so lucky to have taken tons and tons of pictures.
I hate to think that it's over. The pain I have in my cheeks from all the smiling is still there and won't go away. I can't wait to tell you (and show you) all about it in the next DMFC issue!
(Neil T. Daniels - President: Dean Martin Fan Center)

Dear DMFC : Your most recent issue with Cindy Williams and Mr. Ricco was the best so far. I am a recent member, and have never seen anything like the magazine that you send out. I wish there were more issues in a year. You do a great job, and I wanted to say that.
(Kylie Ormond - Oregon)

Dear DMFC : I just heard a Dennis Bono's show on the radio and it was a pleasure hearing from some of the Golddiggers and their anniversary celebration. They were (and are) the best and help to keep Dean Martin's name alive today.
(Craig Hampton - Nevada)

Dear DMFC : I just received my current Dean Martin Fan Club magazine and your article and interview with Cindy Williams is the best. It's so nice to hear from people who worked with Dean or who knew him, and for someone like Cindy Williams to take the time to reminisce is fantastic!
(Michelle A. Coran - New York)

Dear DMFC : I have been a big fan of Dean Martin's for as long as I can recall. This is a wonderful place to find everything about him. I had one question that maybe someone out there can answer. Are there any more unreleased songs that Dean had recorded during his career but never got put out? Thanks so much.
(Linda Russell - North Carolina)

Dear DMFC : What a time we had on Dean's birthday. we even had the restaurant make a cake and we all sang Happy Birthday !! I hope he heard us all loud and clear. We love you Dean.
(Kate Meno - Connecticut)

Dear DMFC : Wonderful interview that your 'fan center' president gave on KLAC this morning. Thank you Brad Chambers for having the folks that knew and worked with Dean Martin on your program to talk about him. Lee Hale was also interviewed and shared some fascinating inside information. They said he had a book out about being backstage at the Dean Martin show. I will make sure to get it. Anyway, thanks again, and I hope that you are asked back real soon again to talk more about Dean.
(Jeff Swatch - California)

Dear DMFC : As it was Dean's birthday yesterday I thought I'd make an extra visit to your site and to the bulletin board, it bought a tear to my eye to see all of the lovely messages that people had left. I am 22 years old and have been a huge fan of Dean Martin for just over a year now and everytime I think of Dean I smile I'm so glad that I found him. What a great funny, handsome, kind and generous man he was . I'll never forget you Dino.
(Jaclyn Ulyatt - United Kingdom)

Dear DMFC : Happy Birthday, Dino! Dance with a few angels today. You were, are and always will be number one in my heart.
(Marie Macchiarella-Florida)

Dear DMFC : We had the radio on at work tuned into our favorite radio station, KLAC, and heard some interviews with people who knew and worked with Dean Martin. It was the most interesting program, and I'm glad to find that there is a Dean Martin Fan Center. Your president, Neil Daniels spoke very well of Dean and gave us a little insight to the man we all 'think' we know, and to hear Lee Hale, whose recollections were just marvelous. Not only did we all start talking about Dean Martin, but we were all so happy to hear that they did something on the radio for his birthday. Thanks for having this website and organization, and for talking so well about our favorite crooner.
(The gang at "Baxters" - California)

Dear DMFC : I wanted to give my Happy Birthday Wishes to Dean Martin. He was truly the greatest star that we have ever seen.
(Michelle Cory - Texas)

Dear DMFC : Excellent show on the radio this morning with Brad Chambers. I loved hearing stories about my favorite singer Dean Martin. Lee Hale's name was always on the credits for the TV show, and it was finally nice to be able to hear him speak about his experiences and knowing Dean so well.
(Oliver Trumbell - California)

Dear DMFC : Happy Birthday on Saturday to Dean Martin. He leads the pack (Not just the 'Rat' Pack) way ahead of the others. We miss you!
(O. Sven - Sweden)

Dear DMFC : I was looking on the internet to see if any celebrities shared my birthday - June 7th. I was surprised to find Mr. Martin and I shared the same birthday! I am turning 40 today-just old enough to remember the great "Dean Martin Show" and the Roasts too! Mr. Martin was such a gifted performer. He is truly missed by my family. Best Regards,
(Jeff Benson)

Dear DMFC : I just heard them announce that June 7th is Dean Martin's birthday, and that Lee Hale and Neil Daniels will be the guests on KLAC radio Friday morning. I can't wait to hear more about my favorite crooner.
(Ed Curtis - California)

Dear DMFC : It's about that time, when Dean Paul Martin (Crocetti) was born 83 years ago. To the best singer and swinger in the world. No one will ever match your style and warmth.
(Judy Allsman - New York)

Dear DMFC : Happy Birthday Up there Dean!
(Larry Hart - Wisconsin)

Dear DMFC : Dean to me just buzzes through the air like music how it should be, he invites passion and fun through his music, sometimes fueled with alchohol . Dino's music still flows on and will forever.
(Trim Trudav)

Dear DMFC : How funny. I love swing music. I have a lot of Sinatra music. I never really listened to Dean Martin. I spent sometime with a freind's CDs and WOW -- there is some great material here. He was a crooner-swinger-50's style pop singer. He did some great versions. Try "Imagination" or "Someday" or "All I Do Is Dream you." Wow. I love this stuff. Great swing. "Send me the pillow" is a great song too. "Red Roses..." Listen to King of the Road -- great background vocals. Sounds like the Jordainaires. He has a Crosby-Orbison-Darin-Sinatra quality that is Dean. I remember the TV show, but as a kid it was not a hit with me. Now I love this stuff. Play it loud, play it proud. This guy was great.
(Tom Williamson - Colorado)

Dear DMFC : Dean's Birthday is right around the corner. I often think about him in June. I guess it's the time when school gets out and the summer begins, and I am able to listen to Dean all day long during the summer break. To all my fellow friends who are not yet in their twenties - give Dean Martin a listen. You'll be amazed at what your parents are keeping from you.
(Barbara Weig - Arizona)

Dear DMFC : Hi my name is Tony from Liverpool U.K. and I have just sent off my membership form to join your great club (what a website), whilst I was training for my attempt at running from land's end to John o'groats (one end of Great Britain to the other), I played nothing but Dean Martin through all the pain of the run and the heartache at times. He alone got me through it, to raise the money for breast cancer. Dean was the coolest singer and one of the coolest men who lived. I miss him and I'm sure the world does too. Regards
(Tony Bullitt - U.K.)

Dear DMFC : I heard an announcement on the radio about all of your work on behalf of Dean Martin. I have been a Dean Martin fan since I can remember. I loved the movie Bells Are Ringing, and all of the ones that he and Jerry did. That's probably because they are musicals, and I just loved his singing voice. I am glad that the station mentioned your fan center and web address. I hope to join your fan club very soon. The radio said it was the best fan club there is.
(Jim Bianca - New Jersey)

Dear DMFC : I am 41 years old and I have been a life long fan of Dean Martin. My dad and I watched his popular TV show every Thursday night, and loved it. I remember when I was in 1st grade at recess I would be singing and humming, Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime. I have always liked a lot the Martin & Lewis Comedies as well as the westerns Dean made. The recordings he made are priceless. I was given the Lay Some Happiness Box Set, for Christmas from my wife If you do not all ready own it I would highly recommend you get it. My all time top picks from his very lengthy list of songs not necessarily in this order are as follows, Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime, Bumming Around, For The Good Times, Little Green Apples, Somewhere Theres A Someone, Honey, I Will, Little Ole Wine Drinker Me, Red Roses For A Blue Lady, In The Misty Moonlight, Blackbird, I Am Going To Sit Right Down And Right myself A Letter, I'll Be Seeing You, We Sang In The Sunshine, Gentle On My Mind, Amore, Drinking Champagne, Welcome To My World, Here Comes My Baby Again, I'm Gonna Change Everything, Cest Ci Bon, Marshmallow World, Take These Chains From My Heart, Shutters & Boards, Blue Blue Day, A Little Lovin, Blue Memories, Raining In My Heart, Sweetheart, A Perfect Mountain, Ain't That A Kick In The Head, Memories Are Made Of This, On The Street Where You Live, Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone.
(Monkee - US)

Dear DMFC : Since 1997 I am a great fan of Dino, and I got 20 cd of him and are searching all the internet and find a lot of lyrics to his songs. I am from Israel and my age is 50. One thing I don't understand, why the TV don't give again the old show of Dean Martin that start on 1965. May be you can do something about that. I am sure all the fan and also lot of people that are not fan will enjoy his TV show..
(Sara S - Israel)

Dear DMFC : Hello, Just saw a Dean Martin program on French PPV TV. Really a great man who will live in our thoughts forever!
(Pietro - Belgium)

Dear DMFC : Been a Dean Martin fan since I was only 15 years old. I remember when I was in high school. We would all cruise around the school in our cars before school. All the guys were playing Iron Butterfly, The Stones on their 8 track tape players. They were all driving alone. I played Dean Martin and all of the prettiest girls in school were in my car. Dean's best song by far was "Come Back To Sorrento" That song was and is pure magic. But then again, "Little Green Apples" is a mighty close second. Dean was just the best there ever was. So, I've been diggin' to Dean for almost forty years. I wish there were a way that I could just say "Thank you Dean for all of your wonderful music. I can't begin to tell you all of the times it boosted my spirits when life wasn't going very well." Maybe tonight since I am on Dean's website, he's listening. Thanks again Dean. God bless you Dean.
(Jon Michael Rose)

Dear DMFC : I have been a fan of Dean Martin's for over 40 years. Since Dean Martin retired from show business, and has long ago passed away, we have never seen another performer in his caliber come along. I don't think the world ever will. Dean's personality and charm was in his easy going manner. Today, back and forth banter as fast as one can spew out the sentences is what people are suppose to accept as entertainment. The world is becoming too fast paced for a sole like me, and for another likes of Dean Martin.
Dean will always be embedded in my memories until my time of calling.
(Ted Garbury - New York)

Dear DMFC : Last Saturday we took the train into New York City, to the Museum of Television and Radio for our 35th wedding anniversary. We went specifically to see the Toast to Dean Martin. ( I did anyway) My husband has wanted to go there for 35 years and because they were featuring Dino, I figured it was time to let him go. We had a great time, and will probably go back and visit them again, it won't take us another 35 years to show up for the second time. We didn't see any one famous like the guy from California, sorry to disappoint you all. But we just had a great time, because we saw Dean ! And you can never get enough of Dean !
(Kate Meno - Connecticut)

Dear DMFC : My wife and I (members of the Dean Martin Fan Center) attended the Musem of Television and Radio's reception and screening of "The Best of Dean" last night in Beverly Hills, and were more than thrilled! Not only were we anticipating seeing the show, but were surprised to see some famous people in our midst such as Greg Garrison, Lee Hale, Dom DeLuise and his wife, Dick Martin and his wife, Neil Daniels, Dean's daughter Deana, and Bob Newhart. We saw Jeanne Martin there too! It was a great night and the tribute that Dom DeLuise gave was marvelous. Thank you DMFC for letting us know about this event, and for making us feel so at home!
By the way, the museum is a beautiful building and place to visit!
(Carol & David March - California)

Dear DMFC : Hi, my name is Clare and I'm 14 years old, I love the Rat Pack but my favourite is Dean, he is fantastic, he is just so cool. I love his songs and know all the words I got his album for Christmas along with Frank Sinatra's and have been hooked ever since. I went to the Rat Pack tribute show of when they performed in the Sands and it was amazing. I would have loved to see the real Pack live all I have to do now is convince my friends how brilliant they are. Your website is fab and I'm definitely becoming a member!!
(Clare Sweeney - England)

Dear Clare (and Maria below) - It's great to see newer fans of Dean's. The fact that you are both 14 testifies that Dean's voice reaches all ages, even in this 'hip-hop' world today!
(Web Director - Dean Martin Fan Center)

Dear DMFC : Can anyone tell me the background lyrics to Memories are Made of This? I can understand the "Sweet, sweet, memories you gave-a-me. You can't beat the memories you gave-a-me." But there's different background lyrics later on in the song. Thanks.
(Russ Bryan - Moursorri)

Dear DMFC : Hi!! I am a 14 year old girl from Sweden that just loves Dean Martin. My favorite song with him is Everybody Love Somebody. And I just wanna say that Dean Martin Fan Center is a great site for someone that wanna know more about this great singer. I just wanted to say this. Kind Regards. P.S. My English is not the best so I hope that you can read it D.S.
(Maria Emilsson - Sweden)

Dear DMFC : I have a few friends who were in Lowellville, Ohio back when Dean was dealing cards and he borrowed 20 dollars from a guy by the name of Tutti Pepe and and another guy he borrowed 25 dollars form by the name of Dan Lupostrange. Tutti has got 2 sons left when he passed away before Dean and Dan passed right around the time Dean died. Dean also had to bum some smokes from a few guys that lived in Hillsville, Pa. which is real close to Lowellville, Ohio. These guys used to laugh and joke about him when he made it big time. All of the gambling was done behind closed doors. They also had a nick name for him, but I am not sure of what it was.
(Pete Gunner)

Dear DMFC : I have loved Dean for many years. I love to listen to his songs on my 1950 Seeburg Jukebox which plays the 45-RPM records. I have lots of these records, which I listen to when I am feeling sad. His songs make me feel really happy. I have alot of the 33-1/3 RPM record albums. Sometimes I would put some records on, and since Dean is so relaxed when he sings, that I would sometimes fall asleep when listening to his voice. I wish that Dean was still here, so that I could tell him how much I love him, and I will always love him. Love and Kisses to you, Dean, from a fan in Spokane, Washington
(Ramona VonTersch - Washington)

Dear DMFC : Hi, In 2001 my brother Steve and I rowed across the Atlantic ocean from Tenerife to Barbados, it was a journey that took us 70 days 10 hours and 12 minutes, not that we were counting. As avid Dean fans we took, beyond our provisions, an ample supply of the great mans work which helped us through the round the clock rowing routine (There is nothing like surfing down a 20 foot wave at night with Volare as the backing track).
In a couple of weeks I will be heading off to Japan to attempt to become the first Britain to row solo, 6000 miles across the North Pacific Ocean ending at the Golden Gate Bridge, some four to six months later. Once again the great mans work will be accompanying me and I look forward to many a day and night with only Dean and the Pacific wildlife for company. I am contacting you in the hope that this may have some curiosity value to your members and be yet more proof of Deans continued influence even in the unlikeliest of places.
Steve and I, along with our family, also had the privilege of seeing the Great Man in Person during his last concert in England at the Palladium in 1986, so we're no Johnny come latelys. Regards,
(Mick Dawson - U.K.)

Dear DMFC : Hi folks, great site! I have been a Dino fan for 49 of my 49 years-- my older sister had many of his 45s, and would play them regularly as she baby-sat me. One of my very favorite songs became 'Memories are Made of This'-- a hit the year I was born, it probably helped me learn to speak-- but I have never been able to understand the words to the background lyric, and since discovering 'the music of your life' radio network, where they regularly play this song and all the other hits that Dean had, those background lyrics are becoming something of an obsession.
I own two Dean cds that feature this song but can't quite make them out. The lyric in question is sung behind the chorus: 'Then add the wedding bells - one house where lovers dwell - three little kids for the flavor - stir carefully through the day - see how the flavor stays - these are the dreams you will savor.' ... Anyone know? Please and thank you,
(Doug Reid - USA)

Dear DMFC : I was born in the late 40s, so, naturally, when I was growing up with the name Jerry Dean I was very much aware of Jerry (Lewis) & Dean (Martin)! I loved those guys! In fact, I still remember that I was on vacation with my family in Estes Park, Colorado, when it came out in the papers that they were breaking up. I felt terrible, that is my strongest memory of that vacation trip. My Mother told me that it was probably just temporary, and they would get back together someday. She was just trying to cheer me up, but, no matter how much I enjoyed the things they did in later years (and I liked some of it a lot), I always hoped that my Mother was right, and that they would get together and perform every now and then. Oh, well!
I'll look forward to checking out your website! Thanks,
(Jerry Dean)

Dear DMFC : Hi, my name is Debbie, I have been asked by my grandmother to find the lyrics and or song that she says was sung by Dean Martin and is played every mothers day on the radio... she says it is simply called "MOM" can anyone help me to find this song. Thanks.
(Debbie)

Hi Debbie - Thanks for writing. Unfortunately Dean did not record this song. I believe it was a hit for singer and "Sausage King", Jimmy Dean on Columbia Records back in the 1960's. Good luck in your search!
(Web Director - Dean Martin Fan Center)

Dear DMFC : I have been a Dean Martin fan for over 30 years. (And since I'm an "old lady" of 50 years old, I became a fan of Dean's when I was just a young girl.)
(Ramona VonTersch)

Dear DMFC: My name is Nadine and I am 24 years old, and just wanted to thank you (DMFC) for your fabulous website about my favourite all round entertainer Dean Martin.
(Nadine Johnson - England)

Dear DMFC : Hi Fan Centre, I noticed a bulletin from Jenney Coffey of Ireland regarding the lyric "I match the man behind the bar for the juke box" from "Little old wine drinker me". My version is slightly different to the answer offered.
In England if a Pub is quiet or no music playing, to get things going, a customer may share the cost of some plays on the juke box with the landlord (Proprietor) - the customer matching the landlord. This way they both benefit. This would be my interpretation of the term. Regards.
(Michael Clay - England)

Hi Michael - "I Match the Man" is an well known phrase among older Americans. It was used for almost anything similar to betting. "I'll match you for that" was a common phrase also. The first person that would start the game would yell out 'heads or tails' while both players tossed a coin (usually a quarter or half dollar) into the air and catch them with one hand on the back of their other hand. Both would then reveal both coins. They BOTH have to be either heads up or tails up for the win or lose (depending on what the 'call' was while in the air. If one coin landed up and one landed down, they would toss again until both matched.
Actually... this has been asked by many folks before... especially people from outside the U.S. (since this was a common phrase and game in the 'country' areas of America). Our DMFC president once asked "Little Ole Wine drinker Me" song writer, Dick Jennings, just to get his meaning, and he concurred with the explanation above.
(Web Director - Dean Martin Fan Center)

Dear DMFC : I absolutely love your website!! I'm a huge Rat Pack fan with Dean being my favorite. I'm 16 and trying to convince all my friends that the lounge music of the 50s/60s is and should be the new fad. I always take them into cd stores with me to try to find any new cds that I don't have yet. I've been a fan for about two years now and it all started with Oceans 11. My grandma send it to me because she knows I like old movies, and I absolutely fell in love with it. Keep up the great work!
(Katie M.)

Dear DMFC : Dean Martin is the man! What a wonderful voice he had. Every so often I forget how good he was until I put on one of his cds or hear him sing in an old movie. He sure had talent!
(Katie Promm - Canada)

Dear DMFC : I remember hearing about a movie based on Dean Martin's life being directed by Martin Scorese. That was many many years ago. I wonder what ever happened to this?
(Arnet Pearson - Illinois)

Dear DMFC : I have been listening to the radio broadcast presentation of the story of Dean Martin. When I called the radio station, they referred me to you. I want to say how fascinating Dean Martin was, and how much his true friends say nothing but loving things about him. As I recall, I never heard anyone (except the Sun and sensational newspapers like this) say anything bad about him while he was living. I enjoy your website and glad to be a new fan even though I have heard of Dean Martin my whole life.
(Casey Miller - U.K.)

Dear DMFC: I burned the motor out on my treadmill after only 2 years running to Dean's music !! The repairman said he's never seen anybody do this before. Good thing I had the service contract.
(Kate Meno - Connecticut)

Dear DMFC : Hello my name is Kol and I am a huge fan of Dean Martin and have been looking for a sketch of him for some time now in his western clothes so I can use it for a tattoo, but so far I have had no luck. Is there any chance you could help me with this ? Thank you .
(Kol)

Dear DMFC : There will never be another voice as smooth as Dean Martin. I have been a fan for 30 years. I am so glad for this website. Thanks. I would like to join his fan club.
(Ann M. Faulkner - Texas)

Hi Ann - Thanks for your comment! Just click on the button called "CHECK OUT THE CLUB" at the bottom of this page to get all the information about joining the Dean Martin Fan Center's fan club!
Web Director - Dean Martin Fan Center

Dear DMFC : I just love Dean Martin I'm 39. When I was a kid I thought this isn't cool but now I do. I love his music and his movies!
(Vernon Stanford)

Dear DMFC: This is for the Walkers who posted about buying a flight jacket worn by Dean. If it has a legal label that originated it coming from "Western Costume", then it's real. Western Costume is based in Hollywood and is a huge building many stories tall. They supply (and supplied) the studios with 95% of the costumes and clothes worn in motion pictures.
(Andy Leicher - California)

Dear DMFC : Dino is Supremo! I can't begin to tell you how much Dean Martin really makes my day brighter. He's the first voice I hear on my cassette-alarm clock, and the last person I see with a poster of him on the wall, before I retire at night. It's Dean's world, and we all just live in it!
(Leiah Manten - Belgium)

Dear DMFC : I am one of those people who lived their whole life never really listening to a Dean Martin song or record, even during the years he was popular. I guess I was too busy with other things, I don't know. Anyway - I was given a cd of Love Songs by Dean and finally got around to playing it in the car on a long trip home last weekend. I was shocked and amazed how much I enjoyed the cd. It not only kept me awake on the last leg of my journey, but I learned all the words to every song on it and now I want to get any new ones that I can find to take with me on my next long (or short) road trip.
I found your website information listed on the cd's booklet, and I guess my point to others is if you haven't really listened to Dean Martin and the songs that he sings, you should give it a try before writing it off. I was very surprised and now understand why so many people loved him. Thank you for your forum here.
(Gary Bloomfield - West Virginia)

Dear DMFC : My wife and I just bought a Dean Martin Airline Pilots Jacket on Ebay. It is a heavy wool, navy gabardine jacket with brass buttons and epaulets. It has four gold strips on the sleeves . It has a sewn in Western Costume Company label with a typed label reading "No. 2877-6 Dean Martin #4." Can anyone Help me identify what performance this jacket was worn for? I do know that Dean wore a light gray flight uniform in "Airport" . Any information would be appreciated. We are huge Dean Martin fans and are thrilled to add this to our collection of the Worlds Best Entertainer . Thank You!!
(Derek & Dawne Walker)

Dear DMFC : Is it just me, or is the fascination with Dean Martin and the whole Rat Pack slowly disappearing? Has time marched on to the point that they are now passe and a forgotten entity in American society? I know that in recent years there have been minor surges of popularity in Martin and Lewis and the Rat Pack because of TV movies, but even the ratings on those seem to have been dismal.
(Doug Henske - Colorado)

Dear DMFC : Hello, I was looking for a Dean Poster for my room and this site came up. I really love all the links and the information I can read about the King of Cool. I got into Dean after seeing Oceans 11 (the original of course) He has a great voice and is just so suave. I hope this site will be up for a long time because you have a new visitor for life!
(Daniel Mankowski)

Dear DMFC : I'm new to the computer world and this Internet thing. I am really pleased to find this Website so easily. As I (laboriously) type this, I am listening to the British Radio 2 program which is playing the good old Dean Martin songs - so nice to hear him again.
His famous song, 'The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane', coincided with the birth of my first daughter in 1955 - at my age, (a secret)! - not all that long ago. The older you get, the more compressed time becomes. I've loved him ever since and all the nonsense about his drinking - so what, I drink too, and I can't sing! May this Website prosper
(Old Bertie Buss- South Wales)

Dear DMFC : To mark a very important date in the lives of my boyfriend (who happens to be Italian) and I... I got two videos... One... An Affair To Remember... Gary Grant and Deborah Kerr and That's Amore... Have not even opened An Affair To Remember... keep watching Dean... he is addicting... I want more... and more... Please pass this on to his family... he is the sweetest and the best there ever was! He makes me so very happy... THANKS DEAN! YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! Love,
(Nanc)

Dear DMFC : I have just found this wonderful site, I've been a Dino fan for many years, ever since my father would stack his old record player up with nothing but Dean's vinyl 45's, and we would sit all night and listen to that wonderful voice. Sadly my father as past away, but every time I hear Dean, those beautiful memories come back. I live in England, and we do not get the old shows over here, but with this site I feel more in touch with the man I still regard as the greatest singer ever.
(Dave Weedop - England)

Dear DMFC : We are one of those old timer couples who goes to Las Vegas every year to take our vacation. My how that town has changed. It's so different than it was twenty some years ago. We have been going there for nearly 40 years now, and without a doubt, Dean Martin was the most memorable performer that ever was. He was handsome, sang like an angel and made you laugh even after the doors opened and you left the showroom. For those who attend shows now, it seems like the biggest performers are now impersonators. Does that make you stop and think? We surely miss those good old days of Las Vegas, and the days when Dean Martin would take the stage. May he always be remembered.

Dear DMFC : I am having the hardest time finding many Dean Martin cd's at my local stores. As a matter of fact, finding anything that's not 'hip-hop' , 'grunge' or 'flip-flop' is pretty hard. No wonder these record stores are complaining of a lack of profit. Even the big "Warehouse" chain declared bankruptcy last week. Maybe if they would stock more music that's available it would be a blessing for them and the consumer!

Dear DMFC : I'm trying to find info on an act that appeared on "Dean Martin Presents the Golddiggers" in the summer of 1968....This was an act with two guys in tuxedos playing one guitar simultaneously...They were the "Times Square Two". Anybody have info on this group? Where are they now? Thanks

Dear DMFC : I just finished reading the note on the bulletin board from the 22 year old Dean Fan. There are many fans even younger than that. It seems Dean has touched many people of all ages. I correspond with a little girl from Australia and she is 12 years old. She's absolutely delightful and a real cutie. I look forward to her e mails every day. She's very special.

Dear DMFC : I just read the questions posted by Peter Wormser. I really think that he's getting wayyyyy too intense! Most people that saw this TV movie gave it an "F" rating. The accent this English actor gave Dean was so bad, and his movements were not anything special, as the story. Unless you are an impersonator, who cares if Dean leaned way down while singing a song? As long as he sang it on key and as beautiful as he always did!

Dear DMFC : Hello, My father is 86 and has been asking me about a Dean Martin skit. The skit was ( he remembers) on Mr. Martin's TV Variety Show. He remembers it as involving Phil Harris and Dean Martin finger-painting a woman. He thinks it might have been one of the Golddiggers or maybe Goldie Hawn. I know this isn't much to go on but he remembers seeing this with my mother (now deceased) and says it was hilarious. Do you know of a skit like this? With Much Appreciation,
(Judith Gugudan)

Dear DMFC : Hi, I just wanted to write and say I've always loved Dean Martin since I was quite young (I'm 46 now) I love his music and thought he had a great voice, and he is dearly missed. Love

Dear DMFC : Hello one and all, I have always enjoyed his singing. Watched his show as a teenage boy and wished I was him. Anyway, on the CD recording of "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You" he seems to garble the lyrics "...growin' old..." - Having seen the recent TV movie about Dean and Jerry, I noticed that when the Martin character was seen singing at a mike, he would swoop down almost as if throwing himself off balance, and then stand upright and continue singing. My questions: Is his enunciation of these lyrics connected in anyway to how he choreographed himself while singing ? And, apart from the Vegas shows we've seen pieces of featuring the Rat Pack, is there other concert footage of Dean that shows this unusual movement ? BTW, I don't recall seeing anything like this on his TV show so it's possible that the actor in the TV movie was inventing this. And it seems odd that Dean would allow a recording to go forward if he slurred or muffed the words. Any comments welcome.
(Peter Wormser)

Dear DMFC : PBS is producing more TV specials covering many different entertainers, such as Dinah Shore and Sammy Davis Jr. . I would venture to say that there will be footage of these performers with Dean Martin in the programs. Keep an eye open for them this coming season (I'm sure that your website will list them for if Dean is included and when they might be on.)

Dear DMFC : For the better part of my life I thought Dean Martin and I shared the same birthday (June 17). Every year, I would be reminded of this because the newspaper would publish celebrity birthdays and his (as well as Barry Manilow's and Jason Patrick's and Joe Piscopo's). When Mr. Martin passed away, the obituaries all I read listed his birthday as June 7, which is consistent with information published on your website. The reason I'm writing is that a co-worker of mine is a huge DM fan, and when I told her my birthday, she said "that is Dean Martin's birthday". I told her, I used to think that, but I had also seen information indicating it was June 7. Do you know whether there has ever been a dispute over Dean's actual birthday or whether we are just crazy. Thanks,
(Rich Malone)

Hi Rich - An old "Reprise Records" biography from one of his latter albums had a typo in the date when sent out to radio stations and the press. From this point on, people kept the ball rolling on the mis-quoted date of birth. We actually have Dean's original birth certificate in our archives, including a couple of the church documents his family received from the church he was baptized in. Dean was born in Steubenville, Ohio on June 7th.

Dear DMFC : Hi everyone. I am only 22 and know many other young kids that are really starting to discover Dean Martin. I was playing on of my many Dean Martin cd's at the beach and this group of boys and girls were next to me and my girlfriend. After the first few songs, they all came over and asked me who that was singing "He sounds awesome!", and I told them it was Dean Martin. They said he is someone 'new'. I told them who he was, and they couldn't believe what I was saying. They started to write down his name and said they were heading for the record store, and sure enough the next day at the beach they were playing their new Dino cd's. It really was a cool thing to see this going on. Dean Martin is finding a new generation of younger people.

Dear DMFC : I just joined the Dean Martin Fan Club. I have been a fan of Dean Martin for many years, and I am glad that there is a fan club for the fans. I had the pleasure of seeing one of Dean's shows at the Riveria in Las Vegas. I was 21 when I went to Vegas. This was the only time in my live that I ever flew, and if it wasn't for going to Vegas to see Dean I would of never got on that plane. I am 53 now and I have never stopped listening to his music, even my granddaughter who is 8 can tell you when he is on TV or the radio. She loves to sing Volare and knows the song by heart. Dean will always hold a special place in my heart and I will never forget him. I got married in 1972 and the song that we had for our first dance was Everybody Loves Somebody, it had to be a Dean Martin song. I watched the Dean Martin TV show every Thursday night and couldn't wait for the following week to see him again. Dean to me is the greatest and will always be, even now when I have a bad day at work or at home, I put on a Dean song and every thing seems allright. Dean I love you.

Dear DMFC : We have really enjoyed the roasts that we've have been getting in the mail. It has been a long time since we got the last one, so I think we have finally obtained all of the ones that were made. After watching these, I did a little research and found that Dean Martin did the roasts over eleven years! I never realized that they lasted that long. That has got to be some kind of record in itself for a series of TV specials on the air!
(Tom Stenner - Nevada)

Dear DMFC : It has to be said again, Dean Martin is the greatest!
(Moss Keable - England)

Dear DMFC : After reading Ricci Martin's book, I wonder if there is enough interest for Faberege to bring back Woodhue Cologne for men?
(Doug Wilson)

Dear DMFC : I belong to a variety of different news groups and online clubs. Yes, it's true that it can become difficult at times to wade through all of the junkmail that gets posted, and all of the personal notations that are bounced back and forth. You have to take the concept of this communication forum in a different way than straightline hardhitting information some of your readers are use to on conventional bulletin boards, such as this one. Here's some general information that I have printed from Modern Physiological Magazine concerning this. It might be of interest to your readers who comments previously:

"Newsgroups in general are comprised of people who were once considered "pen-pals", now are referred to as "e-pals". Because a newsgroup or online club has a title and may represent a certain theme or personality doesn't mean that this will be the subject of it's content for most of the time. Actually, people try and connect-the-dots by finding a common interest to meet others. From that point on, the topic is usually thrown out the window, and the e-pal friendships begin. A newcomer to these groups can be instantly assaulted or booted out because they thought they would hear about the subject title, only to find out that, like the 'clicks at high school', the most popular (or loud) people rule the discussions and talk about everything from their pets operations and family quarrels to their own birthday's and cd collections. In reality, the most popular here are usually those who are the most quiet and shy when facing others in public.

Try and understand that this is a different means of communicating for some. In past days, this form of attaching to others were branded the title of "lonely heats clubs". Many would fill out questionnaires about their likes and dislikes, and in turn check boxes about what they were seeking. Some charged exhorbant fees for their great expectations through singles' dating services and religious groupings.

While the more ambitious would go to clubs and gatherings to try and connect, there are still those who have a harder time reaching out face-to-face , yet have the need of others. Today, with the confusion of whom to trust and with the ease of instant messenger and digital communication, it is much easier for someone to connect with a stranger. The media works both ways. While the news programs on television and radio continue on twenty-four hours a day bringing us all of the horror stories about strangers around us, the idea of sitting in one's safe and serene home, gazing into a flickering screen seems safe and harmless. Like a dating service, where you could send out a picture of someone else and pretend it is you - it's as easy to assume the role of another personality behind the keyboard of a computer. One can become a voice of authority. Many quickly share gifts among other members in an attempt to 'buy' true friendships.

The newcomer that finds his or her way into these groups has to be forewarned that some put electric fences up around their property. Tread lightly at first, or you could be electrocuted or cut to shreds!

All-in-all, the topics are what draw these people together and is used as a means of retreat to justify many causes or wounds. Newsgroups and online clubs can be a good tool if learning can be achieved. It can also be a detriment to those who will not accept the fact that it's only a stepping stone to further enhancement of their lives and not something they should be subjected to for many years of their precious lives.

As a final assessment - many of these members of newsgroups will not try and communicate beyond their safe boundaries. Even if a voice of authority abounds around them, they will not leave the nest. If intimidated, they will not acknowledge others outside their world that may be able to dispel their authority, so a safe distance is always kept."

I hope the article that I have reprinted helps for the ones who left comments here about newsgroups. They are actually quite fun.
